Explain how energy balance can vary

What will be an ideal response?

An individual who is in energy balance is in the state at which energy (kilocalorie) intake from food and beverages is equal to energy (kilocalorie) output for basal metabolism, the thermic effect of exercise, and the thermic effect of food. The person's weight is constant. In positive energy balance, more kilocalories are consumed than are expended, resulting in weight gain. In negative energy balance, more kilocalories are expended than are consumed, resulting in weight loss.
