Neuromuscular adaptations occur early in a strength training program and include an increase in motor cortex output, which increases force production; an increase in the number of motor units recruited; an increase in neural firing rates, along with a greater coordination or neural firing; and a reduction in the inhibitory signals stemming from the Golgi tendon organs.
