Explain the purpose of using a z-score to find a percentile.
What will be an ideal response?
Percentiles are a way of standardizing scores to better understand their relative position in a distribution. For example, a student who takes the SAT exam and scores in the 88th percentile is ranked higher than a student who is ranked in the 80th percentile. Unlike z-scores, which can have negative values, percentiles are always positive and range from 0 to 100. You can then use a z-score to determine where the percent ranks.
