Cultures are never static; they change and continue to evolve, as societies exist over time. Think about the changes that have taken place in American culture as a result of moving from a primarily agricultural- to an industrial- and then to an information-based society. Despite our emphasis on the close connections between a society and its culture, the latter is never monolithic.
