Why might metadata be relevant in litigation? Can metadata be removed from documents?
What will be an ideal response?
Metadata can contain important information about who wrote something, or when someone knew certain information. Metadata may be removed from documents with the use of certain software features. The method used to create the electronic file can also have an impact on the metadata delivered. If the document is delivered in its native format, the metadata is part of the document. However, if delivered as a TIFF file, which is a document image, the hidden data or metadata cannot be seen. This may be an advantage or disadvantage depending on whether you are the sender or the recipient.
