The text notes that car accidents are the largest cause of unintentional injury deaths for people aged 5–24. Consider the risk factors for unintentional injury deaths. What advice might you give a class of high school sophomores to reduce the likelihood that they “become a statistic” when they begin driving?

What will be an ideal response?

Some pieces of advice:
Obviously, don’t drink and drive.
If there are more than one of you, have a female drive. They are less distractible and less likely to take chances when driving.
Think about how personality might influence driving behavior. Impulsive, sensation-seeking people make risky decisions when they drive. Conscientious people are safer, but they can’t help answering that text right away, so they get distracted. Keep these issues in mind when you select a designated driver.
Limit the number of times you ride with friends, or limit the number of friends with you when you do ride with friends. At the very least, keep in mind that adolescent drivers make riskier driving decisions when riding with peers: pay special attention to the road when you have friends with you.
Finally, have your Mom ride shotgun when you can! (Insert appropriate emoji here.) Turns out that Mom activates a certain part of your brain, the one where that angel on your shoulder lives.
