Proper warm up is important. Some people put great emphasis on stretching others put relatively little emphasis on stretching. Regardless, there should be an indication that active warm up in which the person moves to the point of breaking a sweat is important for preventing muscle strains.
Conditioning – Conditioning allows proper progression so a person is not working harder than their body is capable of working
Proper technique – good mechanics help muscles work efficiently
Proper rest – the body needs a rest/recovery period between exercise bouts
Early recognition of soreness, fatigue – we can prevent a minor problem from becoming an injury if we pay attention to our bodies
Avoiding over working muscles – for example you do not have an athlete run 10 miles if they have not trained to do so
