Discuss the development of a periodontal pocket

What will be an ideal response?

A periodontal pocket forms when bacterial by-products and enzymes (e.g., collagenase) break down collagen, which is a component of the gingival fibers or gingival connective tissue attachment. This allows the junctional epithelium to migrate apically along the root surface and also laterally away from the tooth surface, creating a periodontal pocket. Subsequent to attachment loss is bone loss.
