In your primary grade classroom, you notice that your students are playing a game that they invented. A few minutes later, you hear laughter and yelling, and you see everyone pointing at Reese and calling him a loser because he was the first one out in the game. Briefly explain what you would do and why.

What will be an ideal response?

In this case, I would intervene, and ask the students what is going on. I would discuss how it feels to be the loser, and guide students toward changing the game so everyone cooperates and accomplishes something together. The reason for this is that games with winners and losers create resentment and low esteem, and studies have shown that they also lead to increased aggression in the classroom.
