How will new information be presented in your game? Avoid rote memorization and other overt methods.

What will be an ideal response?

Serious game development needs to incorporate “serious fun” at all times. Just like games created for entertainment purposes, serious games need that “fun factor” to be successful. Even if a game is mandatory, it will not get results if it isn’t engaging and compelling. A way to ensure this is to avoid overt and obvious learning methods that are inserted rather than embedded into the game. Gameplay should encompass narrative and learning elements. For example, if a player needs to fill a jar with a certain number of purple pickles that are only divisible by three before the timer runs out, the rationale behind this action should somehow involve mechanics and story. Gameplay could include resource management (especially if the player is responsible for several pickle jars – all of which have varying sizes and shapes that warrant mathematical calculations). Narrative could include economics – where the player manages a pickle factory and must make efficient use of funds, product, containers, and distribution.
