What will be an ideal response?
A UTI is often associated with an increase in urinary pH. The presence of bacteria alone would not
mean she has an infection unless there are also WBCs in the urine. Nitrites normally are not found in
urine but result when bacteria reduce urinary nitrates to nitrites. Here, the presence of WBCs reflects
bacterial tissue invasion and confirms the presence of infection.
