How is cell division different in plants versus animal cells?
What will be an ideal response?
ANSWER: 1. Unlike animal cells, no centrosome or centrioles are present in most types of plants.
Instead, the spindle forms from microtubules originating from multiple MTOCs
surrounding the nucleus.
2. Cytokinesis occurs by different pathways in plants and animals; animals (plus
protists and many fungi) form a cleavage furrow composed of microfilaments of
actin, which surround the cell and gradually deepen until it cuts the cytoplasm in
two. In plants, a new cell wall called the cell plate forms between the daughter
nuclei and grows until it divides the cytoplasm.
