What did Emelia know about Mrs. Snyderís immediate situation? What about the Snydersí extended family?

Emelia coordinated a Meals on Wheels Program for the elderly, and supervised 10 volunteers who delivered the meals. One day, when Emelia filled in for a volunteer and delivered a meal to the Snyders, she found Mr. Snyder very agitated and worried because Mrs. Snyder was missing. Apparently she had wandered off before. Because it was cold outside and they lived two blocks from a busy street, Emelia was alarmed and struggled with how to respond to this unexpected situation. As she tried to prioritize her responsibilities, she began to wonder if her volunteers were communicating with her and if they were well-trained for their responsibilities.

Three months before, Mrs. Snyder had said she could not get around very well any more. She told Emelia she had arthritis. She was concerned about her husband because she could not prepare regular meals all the time. Emelia knew that Mrs. Snyder had recently started a new medicine for her arthritis.
There is little information in the case about the extended family. It would be a good idea in the assessment for Emelia to find out more about the family and whether there are family members or friends or neighbors who could provide regular social support. This would have been good information for her to collect and share with the case review team.
