The experiment described suffers from at least one flaw in design. Identify the flaw and tell how the experiment can be improved.A company tests its new skis with 50 expert skiers. Each skier skis a new, unfamiliar mogul course first using their usual skies and then using the new skis. The times using the new skis are compared with the times using their usual skis.

What will be an ideal response?

When the skiers ski the course with their usual skis, the course is completely unfamiliar whereas when they ski the course with the new skis they have the advantage of having skied the course once before. If they are faster the second time it will be impossible to know whether this is due to the new skis or to this "practice effect". They should use a mogul course which is already familiar to the skiers or randomly choose half the skiers to use the new skis first.
