Federal question jurisdiction is the authority of the federal courts to hear a case under a claim arising from the US Constitution or federal statute. Federal diversity is the authority of the federal courts to hear a case where the amount in controversy exceeds $75,000 and no plaintiff can share residency in the same state with any defendant in the case.
