What are the major findings of research on the democratic peace?
What will be an ideal response?
Research on the democratic peace has made several findings. First, democracies never (or rarely) go to war against each other. Second, democracies are slightly less likely to go to war (against any state) than nondemocracies. Third, democracies frequently go to war against nondemocracies, but nondemocracies go to war against nondemocracies more frequently. Fourth, new or relatively weak democracies go to war with each other more often than do strong democracies. Fifth, new or relatively weak democracies go to war with each other less often than do nondemocracies. Sixth, strong democracies do not enter into militarized disputes that may threaten war. Seventh, pairs of democracies enter militarized disputes much less frequently than other pairs of states.
