The question is based on the section of the “Mt. Tom, California” quadrangle reproduced below (Figure 48-8). The map shows a pair of large lateral moraines at the mouth of Pine Creek coming down the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada 137°24'50"N, 118°36'11"W). A road (shown as a double black line) follows the course of Pine Creek out of the valley between the lateral moraines.
