Identify and differentiate between the four phases of sexual response, specifically for women.

What will be an ideal response?

Sexual response occurs in four phases. The first phase is excitement, where the primary physiological response is vasocongestion and myotonia. The nipples harden and lubrication appears on the walls of the vagina. The clitoris and vagina also enlarges during this stage. The second phase is the plateau phase, where the major change is the appearance of the orgasmic platform. The other major change during this stage is the elevation of the clitoris where it retracts and draws into the body, but continues to respond to stimulation. There is typically an increase in pulse and rise in blood pressure and in rate of breathing. Orgasm is the third phase of sexual response, consisting of a series of rhythmic contractions of the muscles circling the vaginal entrance. In the fourth phase, the resolution phase, of sexual response, the processes of excitement are reversed. The major physiological changes are a release of muscular tensions throughout the body and a release of blood from the engorged blood vessels. The breasts return to the unaroused state and the clitoris shrinks back to normal size.
