Describe and explain two important disadvantages in using property taxes as the basis for funding schools in local districts
What will be an ideal response?
One disadvantage is the fact that the resources in different districts vary dramatically; a second is that property taxes are politically unpopular. For example, a district in which many people own expensive homes collects a great deal more money in property taxes than does a district in which most of the people are lower SES. In addition, property taxes are assessed once a year, so the amounts are conspicuous [unlike sales taxes, which occur in small increments].
