What is "victim blaming" and what role does it play in women's relationship to the criminal justice system?

What will be an ideal response?

Victim blaming is the act of placing some or all of the responsibility for a crime on the victims rather than the perpetrators. This is particularly applicable to women, who face a range of societal and policy biases that often make them "invisible" victims and place them at higher risk of criminal behavior. Physical and sexual abuses are significant risk factors for women, yet women are often blamed for attracting the attention of their assailants or for staying with abusive partners, even though it is often extremely dangerous for them to attempt to leave. Not only does this contribute to an increase in victims' risk of arrest later in life, but it also encourages the victims to remain silent about abuses, which makes studying and understanding women's risk factors far more difficult.
