An endurance athlete depends on muscle efficiency to achieve increased performance and to complete a long-duration activity. The muscle fibers most useful to endurance events are slow-twitch. Aerobic training is needed, that is, activities that promote increased intake of oxygen to meet the muscle's increased oxygen demands.
