Research on the relationships between human behavior and the natural environment identifies many beneficial effects associated with person/natural environment transactions. Discuss several ways in which aspects of the natural environment affect our physical and emotional well-being. Cite examples from your own life and others of how the natural environment has benefited you.

What will be an ideal response?

Research consistently finds that interaction with the natural environment can restore depleted cognitive and emotional resources, reduce stress, and enhance emotional states. Children with ADHD have also shown attentiveness benefits, and people with depression seem to gain more benefits from walking in natural environments than cities. Environments with water seem to have the most significant positive impact. Too little or too much sun, however, can cause harm. Climate change is also leading to more frequent natural disasters.
