Some scholars see the terrorist group as made up of three types of individuals. Summarize these three types.
What will be an ideal response?
(1) the charismatic leader, (2) the antisocial personality, and (3) the follower. The charismatic leader is socially alienated, narcissistic, arrogant, and intelligent, with a deeply idealistic sense of right and wrong. The terrorist group provides a forum for his narcissistic rage and intellectual ramblings, and the subservience of group members feeds his egoism. Antisocial (or psychopathic) individuals have opportunities in terrorist groups to use force and violence to further their personal goals as well as the goals of the group. For the psychopath, the group functions like an organized crime family, providing greater opportunity, action, and prestige than could be found outside the group.
