Filipino Americans: U.S. protectorate after the United States bought it from Spain. In 1909, several hundred Filipino workers were recruited to Hawaii to labor on the plantations; most significant arrival of Filipinos began in 1965, with the Immigration Reform Act, which allowed 32,000 Filipinos, mostly highly skilled professionals, to enter the country.
