(Business of Life) What guidelines should determine whether or not an individual should buy life insurance?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: The real question is "Who needs to be protected in case I should die?" For a single individual with no dependents or a retired couple where each has their own source of income, the answer is probably no one, so life insurance might not be a good choice. There are possible secondary factors such as the ability to purchase insurance in the future or estate planning that might enter into the decision. On the other hand, for parents of young children or couples where one of the spouses does not have adequate income or independent resources for retirement, life insurance would be a wise choice. All insurance decisions, individual or corporate, should weigh the cost of protection vs. the expected cost of a an unfavorable event.
