Why are fewer soil nutrients available to plants in coarser soil?

What will be an ideal response?

Coarser soils have a lower cation exchange rate because they are not negatively charged, as are the finer clay particles. Also, most plant nutrients are water soluble and move out of the soil if the soil particles are too large.
