Why should you shut down a Linux system instead of simply turning it off?

What will be an ideal response?

If you will be performing hardware maintenance or you know there will be an interruption in
power or other environmental problem, you would shut down a Linux system. A Linux system has
running processes and open files and a sudden loss of power may lead to data loss or cause
problems in the file system.
