Outline the production of the egg cell and other associated changes in the ovary of a plant
What will be an ideal response?
In the carpel, the ovary or ovaries form groupings of cells that become the ovule or ovules. Within the ovule, meiosis produces four large haploid cells per ovule. Three of these cells die, and the remaining cell undergoes mitosis, but the cytoplasm does not divide. This eventually produces eight haploid nuclei. These eight cells migrate, and ultimately the egg sac has a large central cell with two nuclei, and one haploid egg cell.
