The student should discuss Common Law, Islamic Sharia, and Roman Law. Common Law has its basis in precedent. It is built upon the decisions that have been rendered by judges in previous cases. Islamic Sharia Law is based upon the Qur'an, the religious book of the Muslims. Roman Law is a collection of legal concepts that arose from Rome. These concepts include; public law (which protects the interests of the state) and private law (which protects the interests of the individual); written law (from legislature) and unwritten law (arose from customary practice).
