Compare and contrast routine-based strategies to activity-based instructions or intervention. What are the differences? Are there any similarities?
What will be an ideal response?
Routine-based strategies take advantage of already occurring events and predictable routines in a child's life. These routines may involve daily activities such as bathing, eating, toileting, and playing. Goals are then embedded into these daily routines in order to develop ongoing skills required in these routines. Activity-based strategies, while similar to routine-based strategies, may include both planned and spontaneous activities that children engage in throughout the day. Activity-based instruction also looks at preceding behaviors and consequences of behaviors in order to develop functional skills.
