Discuss the reasons for public distrust in the media.

What will be an ideal response?

The public has been losing trust in the media for several decades. Some of this descends from the belief in media bias and media unfairness. The media have also been criticized by politicians, which voters have tended to believe. Further, media's emphasis on negative stories and horserace journalism has tended to alienate voters during election season.
