Section 213 of the USA PATRIOT Act also provides for sneak-and-peek warrants. These searches are not limited to terrorism investigations and apply to all types of criminal investigations. The government may conduct “covert searches” in regard to federal crimes when there is reasonable cause to believe that providing notice may result in an “adverse result.”
