Describe the two example-selection guidelines for teaching students to solve multiplication problems that involve a single-digit and a multi-digit factor

What will be an ideal response?

First, the basic facts that are involved in problems should be those that the students have already mastered. Second, worksheets should include a mix of problems. About half of a worksheet should include the most recently introduced type of problem. About 10% of the problems should be addition problems to keep students in the habit of carefully examining the signs. The remainder of the problems should include previously introduced multiplication problems.
