According to your text, which validation method provides the strongest evidence of measurement validity? Define this type of validation method. Then, using the example of a study that measures self-reports of committing theft, what are some challenges to obtaining this type of validity?

What will be an ideal response?

If they get the first answer wrong, the whole question will be wrong. Criterion validity-is established when the scores obtained on one measure can be accurately compared to those obtained with a more direct or already validated measure of the same phenomenon (the criterion). However, many times this is only useful if there is laboratory data or observations from friends and family that can either provide support or can disprove the measure. However, in an example of self-reports of committing theft, there would be no way that any type of laboratory measure could be used and asking friends and family's observations of committing theft would be difficult. How would we know if they were present during the event? Also, would they be likely to report it if they thought their family member or friend would get in trouble?
