Describe the process of juvenile sex offender assessment. Why is assessment of sex offenders controversial?

What will be an ideal response?

Assessments should include family, social, medical, and mental health histories; developmental history; school information; history of violent behavior; alcohol and other substance abuse history; sexual history; and mental status. Information about the youth’s intelligence, insight, and judgment is also important. Assessment is controversial because there is no definitive method of assessing a juvenile’s risk of re-offense. Instruments may not measure short-term changes in adolescent development.
