The nearest sensor method, although the simplest method, is also the least precise method. This capacity is supported by almost all wireless LAN network vendors in their management systems.The nearest sensor method first determines the access point to which a wireless device is associated and assumes that this is the sensor that is the closest to that device. Then, it computes how far the RF signal radiates from that access point. For example, an IEEE 802.11g AP may have a signal that radiates 30 meters (100 feet) in all directions.Therefore the nearest sensor method can locate a client to within a 900 meter (10,000 square foot) area.
