Explain how police academy training falls short of preparing police officers to interview persons in reference to intimate partner violence

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: In the police academy, officers are made aware of domestic violence but the training is frequently only a few days to a week of instruction. This is not adequate to fully prepare them for what they will experience. Many departments do not have officers who are specifically trained in domestic violence, nor specialized domestic violence response units. Officers may also be frustrated because it is a complex issue that cannot easily be solved.
