Population-based cancer registries collect data on all newly diagnosed cancer cases in the population of a defined geographic area, such as a state, region, or country. Sources of data for the population-based registry include treatment facilities such as hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, radiation facilities, physician offices, pathology laboratories, radiology facilities, other population-based cancer registries, and death certificates.
