• Living together occasionally, while maintaining separate households
• Living together without necessarily having sex, to share living expenses or possibly to pool resources to buy property together
• Maintaining separate residences and referring to yourselves as a couple
The Meaning of Cohabitation: The second component of cohabitation is what living together means for couples. Implicit in different living arrangements are love, sexual intimacy, and some level of emotional commitment.
Level of Commitment: The third component of cohabitation is emotional commitment. Cohabitation often creates emotional bonds about being open, truthful, and sharing. Exploring the level of trust and commitment is common to couples at this stage of a relationship, and it may involve faithfulness.
