Compare and contrast the properties of disk and halo stars

Most of the stars in the disk are middle- to lower-main-sequence stars like the Sun, a few are red giants and white dwarfs, and fewer still are brilliant blue O and B stars. Those hot, massive stars are rare, but they are so luminous that they provide much of the light from the disk. Halo stars are old, cool, lower-main-sequence stars, red giants, and white dwarfs.
