After the grand jury or the judge at the initial appearance has decided that there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the case, the defendant will be arraigned. The purpose of arraignment is to formally notify the defendant of the charge(s) and to ask the defendant to enter a plea. At the arraignment, the defendant enters a plea.
