How did a larger sense of the world affect Hellenistic culture?
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary, but students should reflect an understanding of the periplus, the received wisdom of merchants and traders, travel accounts from Nearchus and other travelogues by the explorer Hanno, who went to Africa, and that of Pytheas, who traveled to the Atlantic coast of Europe. These all promoted a more nuanced, open sense of the world which translated in a more curious, more complex Hellenistic culture.
