Arthroscopic surgery is used to repair damage to the knee. What sorts of things can go wrong that can lead to damage in someone's knee?

What will be an ideal response?

Many parts of the knee are subject to misalignment or damage. The knee is a major load-bearing hinge joint. It is built to bend in only one plane, but it is also subjected to stress that can tend to bend the knee in a direction it is not designed to bend. When this happens, some of the many ligaments in the knee can tear. The patella is a bone that does not bear weight but lends structure to the knee joint. The patella can also be pushed out of proper alignment in an injury. The cartilage of the knee can wear out over time as well.
