Describe the different phases of strategic partnerships.
What will be an ideal response?
Strategic partnerships tend to go through several phases: (1) awareness, (2) exploration, (3) expansion, (4) commitment, and sometimes (5) dissolution. During the awareness phase salespeople locate and qualify prospects, while buyers identify various sources of supply. The exploration stage is a search and trial phase for both buyer and seller as they explore the potential benefits and costs of a partnership. The expansion stage involves efforts by both parties to investigate the benefits of a long-term relationship. In the commitment stage the customer and seller have implicitly or explicitly pledged to continue the relationship for a period of time. Dissolution is the process of terminating the relationship and can occur because of poor performance, clash in culture, change in needs, and other factors.
