Explain why criminal behavior appears to decline with age
What will be an ideal response?
Answers may vary but should discuss the various possible factors for the decline. Younger people may be more likely to be arrested because of inexperience. They also commit crimes that more easily result in arrest. They tend to commit crimes in groups so the resolution of one crime may result in several arrests. The decline could also be an artifact of the longer sentences imposed on repeat offenders, so they are incapacitated and grow older in prison. Habitual offenders also may be less likely to be caught and arrested, so they have longer survival periods between incarcerations.
