How would you replace a front transmission seal while the engine and transmission are separated?
What will be an ideal response?
To replace the seal:
- Position a drain pan below the torque converter and remove it from the transmission. If you turn it quickly so the transmission end faces up, very little fluid will leak out.
- Remove the old seal with a chisel, hook puller, or slide hammer seal puller.
- Install the new seal on the installer and drive the seal into the bore in the pump housing.
- Before installing a new seal, check the oil return hole to the pan to see that it is not restricted. This could cause the seal to pop out due to excessive pressure buildup.
