Identify and explain the various negative effects experienced by victims of child abuse
What will be an ideal response?
The impact of abuse on children is profound as it can touch almost every aspect of children's lives and can continue well into adulthood. Abuse can impact child development which in turn impacts their educational performance. The children may act inappropriately with other children. This can continue into adulthood as poor choices are made on who to hang out with as well as develop personal relationships with. Many children develop drug and alcohol problems; again, continuing into adulthood. These problems can lead into health issues—both physically and mentally. Children who are abused are more likely to get involved with behaviors such as truancy, running away, and committing more serious crimes. This can lend itself to escalating into an adult criminal career if not addressed. Physical results from abuse can range from unwanted pregnancies to transmitted diseases. Another concern is the continuation of the abuse, and a creation of intergenerational violence, as the child repeats his/her victimization upon their own children.
