Why did New Spain establish presidios and missions, and what were their consequences for Native Americans?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Spanish wanted to keep an eye on the Pacific coast, where Russian hunters were in search of seals and sea otters. They built presidios and missions to block Russian access to present-day California. However, for Indians, these actions had horrible consequences. European diseases decimated Indian populations, Spanish soldiers raped Indian women, and missionaries beat Indians and subjected them to slavery.
