Part of living in a modern technological society is the interactive aspects of social media that allow advocates to make public arguments and support them with links to articles that support their claim. However, many critics point out how this can potentially lead to problems such as echo chambers where like-minded people merely reinforce existing viewpoints, or proliferation of “fake news” where people receive made-up information as opposed to facts. How should advocates navigate the terrain of social media to critically evaluate arguments?

What will be an ideal response?

The answer should point out that arguments made on social media should be held to the
same standard as any other type of evidence or example: is it true, typical, and relevant? An
answer should also focus on the importance of critically evaluating testimony to make sure the
source is free from apparent bias. Quality sources would not be fake news nor would it be
ideologically bent to cater to a specific agenda.
