It is your first day of teaching kindergarten. Describe how you would create an atmosphere that promotes social competence and emotional well-being. Be sure to include details about the use of space, schedule, materials and specific activities, explaining how each factor contributes to social competence and emotional well-being

What will be an ideal response?

The answer should include space that is well organized and free from hazards (safe), and allows for gross motor activities. The time should balance predictability and flexibility, and include blocks of time for projects and activities that extend over time. Materials should balance novel and familiar objects that are interesting and developmentally appropriate for this age range. Activities should stimulate all domains of development, allow for a variety of modes of expression (art, make-believe play, and so on), and allow children to be challenged without being overwhelmed.
